"A matter of time"
reviews

It could actually only be a matter of time before this God-given singer, guitarist and songwriter finally made his first CD. Jens Lysdal and his amazing band present themselves  with ten songs that all compete with each other to be the best.

The music is based on the interplay between the emotional voice and the acoustic instruments. And although it all takes place in a friendly, almost cautious musical framework, there is no shortage of wonderful mood and rhythm changes, which is why it never gets boring. To highlight certain songs over others would actually be unfair, but one could mention “Be my angel”, “Shadows”, “Easy to forget” and “Still Water” as playing tips, because they show that Jens Lysdal can fully compete with American songwriter cult figures such as Paul Simon and Randy Newman.

The 30-something singer-songwriter’s gifted playing and singing shows a maturity that few first recordings can lay claim to.

Lysdal has made a real contribution to the American roots-rock tradition that includes Hiatt, Ry Cooder and the Blasters. ”A Matter of Time’’ is an album whose time has come.

Korean Times - Korea

Suddenly the goosepimpels are there !...And he plays the guitar like the truly great. He uses graces sparingly, avoiding smart tricks, accurate and to the point with a wonderfully rounded tone. He leaves his gravelly voice enough time to let it’s “something” develop.

Lysdal has the blues, knows the jazz and likes the swing.

GDM-Aktiv - Germany

Carefully sizzling whiskers instead of thundering drumsticks, melodic singing doublebasses, well-placed piano-chords with gold and jewels in the sleeves. And above it all Lysdal’s light and kind voice not unlike a Paul Simon or Sting – moonlighting.

Berlingske Tidende - Denmark

A master piece ! A wonderfully swinging low-keyed record.
An unusually promising musician, singer, composer and songwriter. Jazz, pop, ballads - acoustic, electric but, above all - gifted.

No easy solutions. No cutting of corners. It all flows elegantly along in one big, light, clear-as-a-bell stream. A much needed breath onto the Danish music stage

Ekstra Bladet - Denmark

"A wonderfully direct, unpretentious and extremely carefully recorded work that oscillates between folk, country, ragtime and sophisticated pop. With every note you can hear how much Lysdal understands music. One of the best fingerpicking giutarists in Scandinavia"

The lyrics are sly, wry, shrewdly compassionate, & beautifully crafted, as are his arrangements

That Denmark is home to a fine singer, songwriter & deft guitarist is no shock; the big surprise is that Jens Lysdal is so utterly convincing in English.

He doesn't run away from his ancestry but his own songs are much more akin to those of a Randy Newman or a Lyle Lovett

Radio National - Australia

Jens Lysdal catapults himself up into the first team of Danish songwriters and he is going to keep that position for a long time to come.
You must expect something very specialfrom a 35 yearold musician making his debut with a dossier as tightly packed as Jens Lydal's. And he IS a person whose universe it's worth while exploring.

There are many common aspects but Lysdal never drowns in his sources of inspiration. He masters the art of creating intensity in every single one of the tunes, all quiet and low-key. And this may be the most impressive aspect of the CD.

Jyllands-posten - Denmark

"A melodic miracle ! Empathetic, stylish and super professional. A successful take on the now classic singer/songwriter genre, full of pleasant jazzy chords, and a felt, stylish super-professional accompaniment. But first and foremost, astonishingly durable and stylish compositions with an endearingly experienced and laid-back vocal - both stylish and atmospheric.

Information - Denmark

Soft like velvet is the voice of Jens Lysdal - the danish songwriter who with his songs wanders in the footsteps of American colleagues like John Mellemcamp, John Hiatt or Steve Miller – but without in any way losing his own profile. For most people, the commercial globalization might seem to have disastrous consequences for the multiplicity, but in Lysdal’s music it removes borders. The swinging melody-showers are refreshing due to their lightness and laid-back atmosphere:pop, country, blues, jazz and gospel are inherent in his songs. Accordion, piano, organ, feather-light percussion and last but not least, Lysdal’s guitar-playing, reminiscent of Ry Cooder’s, are the instrumental hallmarks of “A matter of time”, that distinguishes itself by an almost childlike, carefree tone. On the look for the purity of love (“Be my Angel”, “My girlfriend”, “Love & Quality”) Lysdal takes us along into a world of sounds that has no need of adopting trendy effects to leave lasting effect on the heart and soul of the listener.

Flensborg Avis - Germany

16 years ago the danish singer, multi-instrumentalist and singer Jens Lysdal created one of the most solid works in newer danish popular music-history: "A Matter of Time".

Now Jens has remastered it and re-recorded the vocals - and everything still works
